Oh My! How our Girls have grown...

I've been feeling a little nostalgic of late, thinking of my daughters when they were younger....so sweet!!! They're still sweet(most of the time) but much bigger now. Olivia is quite a bit taller than me, and Juliet has just reached my height! I better watch out 'cos Beth is on her way too!

These three Daughters are gorgeous, talented, funny, inspiring, generous, crazy, fun, studious, creative, imaginative, clever, sneaky, cheeky.........

Juliet turned 12 last week....

My beautiful Daughter Juliet Celebrated her 12th Birthday last Thursday....In the morning she opened Her presents with delight, and My eldest made pancakes for everyone to share before we all went off into our days....Juliet had a lovely day with well wishes from her friends at School.....Then on Saturday she celebrated again at a local Cafe near the Beach with her friends, although it was far from beach weather.....but the girls didn't seem to mind! They had a great time eating lunch and cupcakes, then heading to the playground in the drizzling rain....It was gorgeous!!!

The other day I decided to take a few snaps around my house....we've slowed down on the reno front(mainly cos most of it's done) so it was nice to observe the sweet things I'm really enjoying about our house right now!!

I especially love the cutlery i've been collecting for the dining room Buffet, it's such an easy and cheap thifting find! I've found some at Vinnies and Salvos, some my mum gave to me and a few from the Markets!

We've been doing alot of bike rides to the beach on the sunny days here and there, and I'm so happy we have all these lovely bikes to ride! So lovely to have a swim at the beach or sea pool and ride home.....

I've also had my first camelias of the season...so pretty, and a sign that Autumn is here

I had a busy end to the week, including attending a "Nostalgia" concert with two of my friends- Alison and Meaghan! Maeghan and I went to see this band back in 1995........It was fantastic......So my first thing I LOVE this week is....

It was wonderful to see Roxette again, after so many years! Especially after lead singer- Marie- had suffered and recovered from a brain tumor in recent years. They played all our old favourites including Joy Ride, Big Love, Listen to Your Heart, Sleeping in My car, The Look, It must have been Love......

It was my totally lovely Husband's birthday last week, and we went out to dinner with some sweet friends. It is also our friend Kylie-Ann's Birthday on the same day, so it was fab to celebrate both birthdays! We had a lovely evening at one of our favourite places to eat - The Bar Next Door To Samuel's!
It was again a rainy February evening......but we were snug inside with a little bubbly, yummy food and great company!

The beginings of a dining room, and yummy apple scones!

Now that Olivia and Jules have moved into their big "studio" room, I now have a dining room!!! The space will also be used as a studio for sewing etc, and with the Mac in there a quiet place to blog, study etc................. I've had fun so far, setting the room up and I look forward to finding some prints etc for the walls............I already have a gorgeous poster from The Romeo And Juliet Ballet we went to in December, just waiting to be hung..............

I used mainly pieces of furniture we already had to decorate, plus a few new things we found, or were given as is the case with the beautiful sideboard, which was actually given to us by our lovely gyrocker Hanns(who has collected a lot of furniture over the years, but has most of it stored in his gararge. Seeing our "vintage", "eclectic" style of decorating he offered it to us............of course we jumped at the offer, and really appreciated his generosity) The sideboard originally came from The Hydro Majestic in Katoomba! With the need for a new narrow but long dining table we found a simple white one at ikea. I then used a mix of old timber and "powder blue" painted chairs for seating...which I love! I really love this room, as it offers not only a lovely place to share a family meal, but also a space to get some creative sewing projects done............

The sewing machine is tucked behind the mac when not in use!

Yummy Apple Scones..........

I made these yummy scones on Sunday Morning, they were a delicious weekend treat!

Makes

Ingredients

3 cups self-raising flour
1 tsp cinnamon, plus a little extra for dusting
2 Tbsp castor sugar, plus a little extra for dusting
80g butter, cubed
1 to 1 1/4 cups milk
1 grated apple, 1 thinly sliced apple
jam and whipped cream to serve

Method

Preheat oven to 200°C. Lightly dust a flat baking tray with plain flour. Sift self-raising flour and cinnamon into a large bowl.
Using your fingertips, rub butter into flour until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Mix in sugar. Add grated apple, and mix through.
Make a well in the centre. Add 1 cup of milk. Mix with a flat-bladed knife until mixture forms a soft dough, adding more milk if required. Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently until smooth (don't knead dough too much or scones will be tough).
Pat dough into a 2cm-thick round. Using a 5cm (diameter) round cutter, cut out 12 rounds. Press dough together and cut out remaining 4 rounds. Place scones onto prepared baking tray, 1cm apart. Place about 3 slices of apple on top of each scone, and sprinkle tops with the extra cinnamon and castor sugar. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden and well risen. Transfer to a wire rack. Serve warm with jam and cream.

A Visit to Country Town "Boorowa" while staying with my Mum and Dad......

Last week Juliet and Olivia caught the XPT down to their Nan and Pops(my mum and dad's) in Harden- Country NSW..... Andrew, Beth and I followed a couple of days later, and we all spent Australia day together........especially enjoying a swim in the town pool(all the nicer as we knew it was raining at home)...we had a lovely and relaxing time. The girls again rode the old ride on around and collected eggs from the lovely chooks!

On the Friday we went for a drive to a town nearby called Boorowa..... My Mum had recently been over and discovered a gorgeous cafe called "Pantry On Pudman".....so we went there to enjoy yummy coffee and cake and admire all the vintage furniture and bits and bobs that are also for sale...........it was delighful.....we had a wander around the shops, thifting some sweet things from the Vinnies, and also finding a few little pieces in the Antique store.........

The Making of Liv and Jules New Room.............

Ok, so when I say we're doing less renovating this year.....I think I might mean later this year! LOl! We just completed Liv and Jules "Teenage Retreat" Yesturday........and I'm happy to say it looks Pretty Fantastic!
(alothough other parts of the house full of boxes etc are now looking rather messy, and today I'm at work thinking about all the re-organising and cleaning up I need to do!! But I'm really looking forward to puting the dining room together).

Well, I took a few pics along the way, and some of the "finished" room last night and this morning..........It was a really big room to paint, but so worth it for the fresh results!!

The girls put in Alot of work themselves, helped along by Andrew and I. Again Super Hubby Andrew was amazing(with the tools, putting the door on, moving the ladder when I was painting, moving heavy pieces of furniture etc). All in all another fab team effort! And thanku Beth for entertaining yourself all weekend with dressing up, playing schools, rip sticking, bike riding........

It's hard to see from the pictures, but the big room is now divied into Jules sleep/study area, lounge/tv in the middle space and Liv's sleep/study space..........

The School Holidays have been lovely AND Busy so far! With a multitude of beach/park outings and catch ups with Family and Friends! I also had the joy of going to a gorgeous Friend's "1950's Tea Party" 21st on Saturday...........Amy.........It was perfectly sweet with awesome music from the birthday girl's DJ friends!

Amy, being super sweet as ever wore two different dresses throughout the evening..........It was a joyful event, and made me think how proud I'll be when my girls reach such a "grown up" age.......

A Day Trip to Berry and Gerringong....

Last week My Family and I headed off for a little day trip to enjoy what Berry and Gerringong have to offer...........So a little shopping, coffee and milkshakes, and a Yummy Lunch were had!

We were totally delighted with Vintage Store- Nefarious Rabbit in Berry, and left with a couple of gorgeous little dresses. Haven and Space was another favourite...suitable for "everyone's" budget!

We had the good luck of parking near Lisa Madigan's new store in Berry.........This store is gorgeous, and we all found some goodies to buy......can't wait to visit again!

Part 1

Beth's New Room

Last week while I was at Work, My lovely Family started the pack up, sort out, re-arrange.....which will see the last "big" part of our renovations complete! Beth has only had a "portion" of a room as a bedroom for the past Year, but has now moved into what was Juliet's Room. I have added photos below....Mainly Olivia and Juliet are to thank for the set up of this lovely room!!

Now, what was until recently part studio/part Beth's room is on it's way to becoming a Large "Teenage" retreat for Liv and Juliet....complete with seperate sleeping zones and a mini living area in the centre with couch/T.V...I will post progress photos soon....

So! That leaves what will soon be Liv's "old" bedroom..........I'm very excited as this will be our NEW Dining room.........and stuio/study..............Looking forward to setting up this lovely little room...........it's straight off the Kitchen, and it will be a joy to have a dining room again......I'll have to draw up a little floorplan of our House!!

New Years Eve...

We had our Nieces with us for New Years Eve, so we decided to go out to Dinner- We enjoyed a gogeous meal and atmosphere at Lee And Me in Wollongong...........Their Summer Nights Menu has a delicious selection of meals....YUM!

Of course we all took lots of photos, so you will find some lovely collaged shots below.........

After our Yummy Dinner we headed home to enjoy the balmy eve watching the Fireworks on T.V(and a few in our street!), sparklers, and a little Mini Pavolva Dessert!!

So! Now here we are at the beginning of 2012....AND I think it's going to be another great year, perhaps even a little less chaotic with most of our renos finished!! Juliet is starting Highschool, Liv going into Year 9 and Beth into Year 3...........I'm hoping to start training as a yoga teacher(slowly)-Finding the perfect balance between designer/shop girl and Yogi......And Andrew and I have a little Bali trip planned for our 15th Wedding Anniversary! <3

Christmas + Holiday at home......

Well, My Family and I enjoyed a lovely and relaxing Christmas Day at home..........We opened pressies, enjoyed "pear pancakes"- Jamie Oliver style, went for a swim at our favourite beach and ate a yummy Christmas Lunch- Roast Chicken and vegies, Nectarine and Walnut Salad, homemade Raspberry Lemonade.................And after an afternoon nap- delicious Summer Berry Trifle.

All in all it was a delightful day, Boxing day was spent at my family home with my mum and dad/sisters/nieces/nephews etc, where our girls enjoyed riding on the old Ride on Mower(now known as 'The Tractor') and tending to the animals- chickens, ducks and sleepy old Lillian the cat (pretending to be the Girl's off McCleod's Daughter's)..........Another lovely day.....

I was also lucky enough to head over to my Grandma's in Wagga for a lovely catch up <3

Yesturday, I took my Daughters into Sydney as a special "Early Christmas" treat to see The Australian Ballet's Production of Romeo And Juliet! Of course it was absolutely Amazing, Beautiful, Graceful, And Inspiring.....especially since my three girls all dance...

We go into Sydney early, and had a quick wander around The Strand Arcade, followed by a quick dinner with Hubby/Daddy at The Ivy.... It was a lovely evening.

Andrew's Work Christmas Party!!

Wow....What a busy Weekend!!! On Saturday Andrew and I went to His Work Christmas Party, it is a huge event every Year, and this Year was No Exception...Infact I think it was the BEST one yet!

The Theme was 'Arabian Nights', and the Venue was beautifully decorated with bright cushions, vases of roses, lanterns, lights, tea light candles....There were two gorgeous Camels to have a photo with , A Henna Tattoo Room, Dance rooms, A Drumming Room, Outdoor Stage for entertainment, Food Stations......

I imagine by now you're getting the idea that this was quite a Beautiful event...Full of lots of Happy people. There were some great costumes, including a couple who came as Arabians on A 'Magic Carpet'...........Performances included Belly Dancers and an African Drumming/Dance Group.........

Just to make things even More lovely for Andrew and I, The Husband of my Sweet friend from My Home Town also works for the Company, so we had the enjoyment of hanging out/dancing/drumming with Alison and Jeroen ALL night!

At the end of the night A Very tired "Sarah and Andrew" caught the last Train Home..........I have posted a few photos from the night below

A Cake for Beth.....

On Friday I organised a little party for my youngest Daughter- Beth....She' turning 8 on the 23rd of December, but of course we needed to have a Party before "School's Out".... My Eldest Daughter- Olivia and I made a pretty SWEET cake for her......It was lots of fun to make, and Beth loved it!!!

This is big news!!!! After trecking up and down a ladder to the back yard and our cars for over a year....We finally have stairs to "skip", "Hop", "jump" up and down!!! My gorgeous husband spent a few solid days building the stairs and getting a good start on the deck in all sorts of crazy weather..........Thanku Andrew <3

Christmas Tree and Paper Doily Garland.....

My family and I put our tree up on the weekend((amongst other things- including, but not restricted to- swimming lessons, brunch for two(hubby and me!!!), Bunnings Warehouse(spent too much money), Art and design markets:), shopping, family Yoga, Yummy Creamy Thai Chicken(made by hubby), Delicous stewed fruit crumble(made by liv), a blow up pool to cool off in, a little renovating, Sunday dinner in the Ivy Bar....))

Our tree this year is a Branch...well branches... We spray painted them silver and pushed them into a big pot full of sand(the pot will be filled with a plant in January). We then popped on lots of pretty decorations, and seeing as the lights for the tree seem to have gone missing, we placed some Typo lights that we had, on it instead.....We are really happy with our sweet tree, which sits in our almost finished(back)family room....Will put pics up soon of this room!!

I also made a pretty doily garland last week and put it in the Suede Vintage window..........You can never have too many garlands.......

New Summer Window Display at Suede Vintage....

My Sister Lauren works at Suede Vintage now also!! And you may remember her guest blog on her paper craft, you can read it again here! So anyway when I suggested we do a new Summer display Lauren came up with some lovely paper POM POMS in yellow and pink.....Pink Lemonade..... My daughter Juliet also made some larger POM POMS for us to display..........The result IS rather sweet!

As we're leading up to Christmas I also filled a beautiful old suitcase with tissue and hand made gifts (including fabric and paper bunting, paper garlands, purses and sweet jewellery) that can be purchased for Christmas :) and popped it in the window............ My Sister Jodie put this sweet little bird in my collection of things from our Auntie who passed away. Amongst the items I was given were beautiful old thread, buttons and doilies and ofcourse sweet Birdie! He has joined with my Owl(which Jodie gave me) and a little bird and cage on my bedside table!

On another note I have worn yellow today.....the love continues....

Barefoot Bowls

We spent a lovely Sunday morning with our friends- Dave, Nicola, Ciaran, Hamish and Lance playing Barefoot Bowls........It was a lot of fun....Andrew and Olivia were the Winners in the end and we were all glad of the breeze on what was a very warm morning!! It was Ciaran's birthday gift and we thank him for sharing it with us....(oh, and we had an extra child for the day- Beth's friend Josie) <3

You know how it is....being in the moment and all that, I forgot to take pics of my little "event" totally set up and being enjoyed! Oh well, we had a lovely time, my friends bought beautiful cooked cakes and slices to share and we enjoyed a punch made by Lauren..... I took a few more "yellow" photos as I accessoried with yellow yesturday, and a little posy of flowers that's moved to my bedroom. You'll also see a cute pic of our rabbit Flopsy at the end "balancing" on the back of a couch...cute....<3

It's Melbourne cup!!!

Well it's the Melbourne cup today.......And I get to close Suede Vintage at 1pm:).....So I'm super happy....as you may know my family and I have been getting stuck into our renos, and today I'm having a little Melbourne Cup lunch in the Fabulous new "Ivy Bar" (covered area in the backyard) anyway here's some photos of it all looking seriously pretty, I'll take some more during our get together and upload in the next couple of days.......... I have discovered recently that I really like the colour yellow! I've bought a yellow bike, necklace, dress and bed spread :) It's such a bright, happy colour that I'm quickly becoming obsessed with.... I do try to limit it a little....

Mini Bathroom project....

It was a lovely weekend. I got to see my Mum and Dad on their way back from Adelaide, I went to see Pete Murray with my Hubby, I got to eat brunch at a new little Cafe in Thirroul- Called Blue Water Cafe(yum).

And we managed to get started on a few little projects!! The main one I worked on was this little storage area in the bathroom. We already had the little drawers, and I just painted them white! I found the baskets at Officeworks and House to Home. The large white one in the centre is being used as a shelf and will contain rolled up guest/spare towels. And the other baskets are for everyones shower products and cleaning products. I also added some pretty flowers to the vanity......

I'm really happy with this little project, as I'd been wanting to do it for quite a whilexxxxx

Singapore was the second half of our holiday! My Brother in law- Sam and family (Margie, Hannah and Lily) live there, and have done for almost four years. We really enjoyed our time there- Swimming in the pool, the Zoo, Universal Studios, SHOPPING!!

We went to a gorgeous little part of town- Arab Street- It was really arty, creative and "old Singapore"- I loved it! We ate at a lovely Turkish Restaurant and looked around the shops.....

Hello there,

I'm back in the real world....The one where I go to work three days a week, yoga once a week, cook, clean, wash, drive kids EVERYWHERE, host sleepovers, go for walks and boxing sessions with my hubby and drink lots of coffee..... I am happy to be home, but it was so VERY delicious to be away in a little land of luxury, relaxation and the odd bit of madness (markets, shops, cafes, taxis, mopeds and lots and lots of people) I loved the contrast between the two...The tranquility of the Villa and the business of the street.

My Hubby and I loved Bali so much....We are going back for our 15th wedding anniversary next year!!

I took a few photos on my phone, so i have added them to this post, of course I will do a proper Bali post with lots more photos soon......

Sarah has asked me to write on her 'oh so sweet' blog today about my paper habit!

I have a small obsession... cutting paper and recently i've turned a habit into a creative venture!!!
It all started when Sarah began making heart Garlands, I thought they were just the most divine thing and so I decided to make them too, I used old sheet music and so the passion for recycling and re-using arose...

Things have developed since then and I have an impulse to use every morsel of paper (which means my house is covered in paper most of the time). I make three sizes of hearts and two sizes of bunting and then I also make heart confetti out of all the leftovers (a little overzealous). I also make these lovely Fluffy/Scrunched Garlands (seriously need to think of a name for them) out of old tissue paper, books and anything else that works, recently I tea stained small paper doily's and made a scrunchy garland out of them, it is so gorgeous! I use mostly recycled materials and make a conscious effort to be as environmentally friendly as possible! I'm forever coming up with new ideas and have recently been making garlands to order! My newest project is Tiny Snowflake Garlands, they are oh so sweet!
The main focus of my designs is to re-use and recycle and so I get my materials from all sorts of places, like op shops, 2nd hand book stores and friends work places. Recently I've taken to going in for a chat whilst my friend un-packs stock and I gather up all the paper tissue and take it home to give it a new life <3 Sometimes I get books and sheet music that isn't very old so I've started working with tea and coffee staining to get different colours, to create greater depths and more interesting garlands!
I'm starting to branch out into wedding decorations with the thought of becoming a wedding stylist... but that's just another dream <3

Last night I took some photos of these lovely pieces my sister Jodie had given me last Christmas. i love them both! The gorgeous Owl Vase is so sweet and delicate, and just a little bit Nina (Offspring)!! And the "love" ring I wear everyday, it's smooth and so pretty!!

So every Christmas My Sister's, our Mum and I draw a name out of a hat and buy for that family member! It's always a lot of fun! This year our focus is on buying gifts that are handmade/vintage...

Well, I'm off on a family holiday to Singapore and Bali in a few days, hopefully I'll do one more post before I go and then I'll post some pics from our Holiday when we're back :):)

Oh! And when we're back we're getting stuck into our renos again! yippee!!

I went away to spend time with my mum and dad and other lovely family members on the weekend, and then got sick for a couple of days....so there have been No Projects this week:(

New cushions- Vintage fabric!!

Just a little project this weekend!!! I set about making some delightful cushions for a lovely old bench seat that my Mum found for me. In fact she got one for myself, my sisters and herself, and we all love them! I've ended up placing mine outside and its lovely to sit on in the morning or afternoon sun. Anyway I found some funky vintage fabric in my studio to work with, and I had some old cushion inserts(the covers were becoming just a little bit feral) that i cut in half to make four narrow inserts perfect for the bench seat!!I can picture maybe a couple of hot pink cushions to lean against.....

Well it was a rather lovely weekend again, if not quite as productive as the weekend before....Hope your day is Sunny xxx

Weekend Project....

What a lovely weekend!!! I managed to complete a project that I really didn't think I'd have time to finish in one weekend! as you can imagine weekends can be a little busy in our household! There was a party, a sleepover, Liv's pointe class, washing, cooking, a boxing session, a little yoga time with Beth, brunch and Juliet's choir performances!!

So, i was surprised to finish Mine and Andrew's bedroom makeover!!! With a little help from splendid helpers ofcourse... Andrew made our super gorgeous hanging lamps(clever) and the girls helped with a little painting.....

I painted the room in an elegant soft grey, and painted the bedside tables fresh white. I then just added a few new accessories- butterfly cushion(freedom), yellow quilt(tree of life), hanging lamps(clever husband), vase(freedom) with daisies, heart picture(I made from an existing frame and fabric hearts).

Well it was a bit of a rainy Sunday morning.... Juliet was on a sleep over and Andrew was Running in the City To Surf! So Olivia, Beth and I decided to create a magazine page wall in our rather unfinished living room(the new one with No interior walls), and considering it will still be a couple of months until we do have walls we thought we'd have some fun!!!!

The most fun part was tearing all the inspirational pages out of old Frankie, Real living and Country Style magazines.....The end result is a little chaotic, but certainly a bit of happy!!

How to Make.....Bunting

I decided to make some bunting!!! I'm going to use it for a new Spring Window display at Suede Vintage and then it'll be going in one of my daughter's bedrooms. It was really fun to make, and if you're not so keen to make it yourself, but love the look- I'll soon have an Etsy shop set up where you'll be able to buy some of my handmade items!

I chose a selection of vintage and new fabrics and mixed floral prints, with spots and lace. All in a mix of pastel colours and brights. I also used bias binding to sew it all together...

Gather your fabrics, scissors, bias binding and sewing machine. Then cut out a triangle template measuring approx 22x20x20cm.

To make bunting that will measure approx 5 metres(including end lenghths for tying) you'll need to make 14 double sided triangles, therefore you'll need to cut 28 triangles!

Once you've cut the triangles place your pieces right sides together, ready to sew. Sew each one together leaving the widest side open, ready to turn through. Once you've turned all pieces the right way press flat. Then line up and decide a pleasing arrangement. Be sure to flip over to see you're happy with the opposite side of the bunting also....

Now you can use your bias binding to sew your bunting together. Leave about 70cm for tying and then sandwich the top of each triangle between the binding leaving about 4cm between each trianle!

Now isn't that pretty!!!

My lovely friend Alison has taken some "splendid" photos of her Sydney apartment....

"Inspired by "Found By Sarah", I've made some cosy adjustments to my very white apartment over the last few months.

A gorgeous butterfly garland now warms the entrance, and upon hanging it I found the motivation to properly decorate our picture frame ... (well it's only been two and a half years since I threw them up haphazardly!).

Some garish pink cushion covers were replaced by some handmade gold silk ones, which as the Big Lebowski might say, really tie the room together.

Our cat can now relax under soft light from a real lampshade in the study.

I've learned that the devil really can be in the details and my bedside table has been cleaned up. And the creative ideas on storage have rescued my beloved Antoine et Lili shopping bag from threats of the garbage bin - it now holds a whole stack of workshop paraphrenalia and brings Paris back to my home.

Well isn't it splendid that Winter is on the way out!!! Or at least it seems. I'm feeling all inspired again to get back into our renovations and finish off some stuff that's just been "ignored" during the Winter!!

It's hard to know where to start again though, and as we are busy saving for a little overseas trip for our lovely little family, our reno funds are a bit low....

So I took some photos of sweet and splendid things that I like around my house, trying to put aside the fact that most spaces are looking rather unfinished....

Oh! Well! I'm sure as the weather really does turn to Spring we'll be finishing off all sorts of projects around the place..... Until then enjoy these sweet pics xxxxx
